Benefits of Athlete specific massage
There are different types of massages, just like each athlete is different (cyclist, triathletes, runners, gym users, golfers, active lifestyle), and we adopt a range of options that best suit each individual. Whilst the most commonly associated massage type is deep tissue, working a range of muscles is as benefical as focusing on specific areas of tightness or knots.
This can cover a range or combination of full leg, ankle, foot and lower back; intensive lactic reduction, back, neck, shoulder arms and/or hand wrist and shoulder massage.
However, it is not solely about applying extreme pressure, nor is this always welcome, long lengthening strokes can also aid muscle recovery. A massage will provide a sense of relief in your muscles, aiding accelerated recovery and revival. We therefore utilise both Swedish body and sport massage techniques, tailoring to your specific individual requirements.
Improved flexibility - most activities/sports generate repetitious movement putting serious strains on muscles and joints. Massage relieves this tension and improves overall flexibility. The sustained muscle contractions can lead to you feeling sore and can cause you to lose some of your mobility. Regular massage will help elongate your muscles, making your range of motion better.
Better circulation - When you undertake aerobic or cardio activity, your heart rate increases, promoting faster blood circulation - as a cyclist you are familiar with these conditions. When you stop, however, your blood flow can slow as the body seeks to recover. Frequent massage promotes excellent blood flow, nourishing the body and tissues, improving circulation. Oxygenated blood flows through the arteries and accelerates waste removal via the bodies lymphatic system.
The techniques we utilise in our athlete specific massages, facilitate lymphatic drainage, helping remove or reduce spasms, restrictions and adhesions in muscle fibres. Regular, preventative and recovery massaging, aids the reduction of lactic acid. Without this, the flexing and overworking can stimulate efficency loss in flushing out the lymphatic system. Lactic acid builds, and resides in muscles, causing cramp and spasms, ultimately reducing cycling performance and enjoyment. Massage improves oxygen capacity in blood cells, making you better at moving oxygen throughout the body. This improved circulation assists in keeping the muscles free from pain. This can also benefit, through improved circulation, your overall immune system to begin making repairs.
Endurance athletes - There are different types of endurance athletes, but all can benefit from massages. You need to keep muscles loose and remove any stiffness. As endurance distance activities involve longer stress, it’s necessary to have massages as part of your training programme. Massage aids faster recovery, making it easier to recover from the next one. Prior to a ride, it can be used to balance your muscles without overworking them so they don’t get tired too quickly.
Recovery and relaxation - Exercising regularly, brings many health benefits and strains which sports can place on your body. You can be tense and sore. Relaxation on its own has great mental, emotional and physical health benefits. When combined with massage therapy, endurance athletes can achieve greater levels of physical relief. They will help unlock energy in your body that you can use before your next event or workout.
Ultimately our athlete recovery and revive massages are fantastic because they have benefits that cover your entire body. As an athlete, you can enjoy significant benefits from our massages, helping you maintain circulation flow, limit the development of scar tissue; aiding the removal and reduction of excess toxins waste such as lactic acid over time, helping to promote pain free limbs, providing a complete and flexible range of motion.
